Aiyyaa is a comedy movie, directed by Sachin Kundalkar and written by him and Nilesh Girkar. The film was produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures with UTV Spotboy as a production partner. The film was originally titled "Swades", the first word being the first word of the film's title, but the makers chose to change it before its release to avoid confusion with Swarajyam's "Swarajyam". IndiaGlitz gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars and said "This movie is definitely worth a watch with the family, but is not 'truly' a must watch film when it comes to comedy". Oneindia Entertainment also gave the movie 3. 5 out of 5 stars and said "Aiyyaa is a good comedy flick that will make you laugh constantly. It runs smoothly without losing its tempo or interest.". Times of India also gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars and said "Aiyayyaa represents how to make a film with honesty and conviction even if it doesn't seem to be the right thing to do, or maybe because it doesn't seem to be the right thing to do.". Hindustan Times also gave the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars and stated "It's a mesmerizing watch". The movie grossed approximately $2 million worldwide on its opening day box office.
